a5c7b9f00b When strange anomalies start to appear all over England, Professor Cutter and his team must track down and capture all sorts of dangerous prehistoric creatures from Earth's distant past and near future. Primeval- about a giant monstrous crocodile terrorizing a village, believe it or not is a true story. There actually exists a beast of this sort and even has a name- Gustave, which makes the thoughts even more harrowing. Anyway, the film is alright- I barely have any recollections but it is a decently made B movie. The shots with the croc were quite good. I am going with a 4 stars but I feel just because of the rarity of the subject you should give this one a shot. Ordered Series 1 and 2 of this on a lark from an Amazon UK "If you like DOCTOR WHO" recommended list - and was pleasantly surprised. Okay, the special effects (especially creature CGI) can be a bit blah, and the characters sometimes suffer from "rubberband" skill sets (where does an "evolutionary biologist" learn to fire automatic weapons just like Rambo, anyway?) - but like DOCTOR WHO which it seems to be (erroneously) compared to, the writing is generally strong and the characters are engaging. It's certainly a better show than TORCHWOOD (even if it doesn't star the ludicrously handsome John Barrowman!), and despite some quasi-adult themes doesn't violate its UK-12 (roughly equivalent to the US's TV-PG) rating so it's good viewing fun the whole family.

I don't understand why this show isn't available in the United States yet - it's got dinosaurs (well, not QUITE, but close enough for American audiences!), adventure and is family-friendly enough for early evening television. No, because the BBC stepped in with funding. ITV originally decided it couldn't afford to make any more series, but BBC Worldwide has stepped in with funding for Series 4 and 5.
